LET’S TALK ABOUT ANXIETY

I help clients whose anxiety is keeping them from enjoying their present lives. Fear sounds the alarm bells for the threat system to mobilize within our body. The anxious thoughts of anticipation can lead to muscle tension, hypervigilance and constant ruminating about what might happen in the future. We are seeking control around the "What if ...?" question. Worry is our mind's way of trying to problem solve around our perceived threats. Unfortunately, anxiety can lure us into constantly thinking there might be a danger even when there is none. The tradeoff to feeling in control and safe is the loss of our felt sense of peace.

Rather than avoiding things or reacting with unhealthy coping strategies, therapy teaches people to manage their fear-based thoughts and feelings before they take over. The methods that I draw from are evidence-based and discussed within the framework of self-compassion.

In addition to coping strategies, we explore why you are anxious. It is not enough to only ask yourself “How can I stop feeling so anxious?”. The key to turning down your threat system is to take a deeper look at the question, “What is my anxiety telling me?”. In therapy we explore how our mind and body are alerting us to the fact that something deeper is not right. We then move to identify the actions that will align you with your core values and ultimately lead you to feeling secure and at peace.
